We have been super busy with exciting arts events all over town. We hit the Matthew Steele opening at CPCC on Thursday evening, Pinky/MM Bass and Doug Baulos reception at the Light Factory on Friday night, and this weekend, we visited Venturing Out of the Heart of Darkness at the Gantt Center, Maja Godlewska: Self at the New Gallery of Modern Art, and Frames, the Cultural Initiative‘s project at Chop Shop, to name just a few. Wow! So here’s what we have on our calendars this week…
Tonight at the Mint Museum Randolph, Desmond Shawe-Taylor, Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures, will give lecture entitled Through the Eyes of the Royals: The Queen’s Pictures from Henry VIII to Elizabeth II. Registration required. $30 public/$20 members.
Head to the Mint Museum UPTOWN at 2pm for a 30 minute discussion with Amber Smith, Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. Smith will discuss highlights from the museum’s permanent collection including works by Romare Bearden, Richard Hunt, and Kristina Rogers.
It’s Valentine’s Day on Saturday. Perhaps you haven’t picked up a little something for your sweetheart. Might we suggest art or something handmade? There are lots of good options locally, including Lark & Key, Hidell Brooks, or the gallery at Clayworks, to name just a few.
