Here’s the skinny on what’s happening and where we will be looking at art this week:
Tuesday
UNC Charlotte Rowe Galleries, A Continent On Display: Selections from the Collection of Michael Gallis
The Department of Art & Art History and The Rowe Galleries at UNC Charlotte present A Continent on Display: Selections from the Collection of Michael Gallis, which features ten masks from nine cultural groups from various regions in Africa. This exhibition was made possible by the generosity of Michael Gallis, who has given Susan Fredson-Cole, a UNCC Art History major, access to his private collection. The exhibition will runfrom April 27th – May 7th. The opening reception will be held April 28th with a gallery talk beginning at 5 pm in Rowe 130.
Friday
Carolina’s Got Art! Juried Show
Held at Elder Gallery during the month of May 2015, a noteworthy juror will select his/her favorite pieces from among the submissions entered (2D and 3D work, excluding ceramic pieces, which will be jurored for the June Ceramics show). These pieces will be displayed as the “best of the best of Carolina artwork.” As has become a CGA! tradition, our juror will be on hand throughout the opening night to meet artists and the community as well as host a Juror’s discussion the following morning in the gallery. Awards will be presented during the opening night.

Grand Opening: May 1 (6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)
Juror’s Discussion: May 2 (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
Saturday
On Saturday, May 2, the arts will come alive along the Rail Trail with ten stops, each featuring programs and activities for kids and adults to enjoy. More than 25 independent artists will be available to answer questions, demonstrate their creativity and, of course, sell art! More than 20 local retailers will sell handmade, local and vintage goods ranging from jewelry to soap, birdhouses and other crafty wares. The Charlotte Food Fight will be happening at the food truck lot, fashion trucks will have the latest from the runway, and of course, there will be craft beer.
