DAILY: Awakenings Exhibition

Yesterday, we stopped by the Cornelius Art Center to see their latest exhibition, Awakenings. Curated by Jen Crickenberger, the exhibition features the work of S. Gayle Stevens, Diana H. BloomfieldChristina Z. Anderson, and Charlotte-based artist Aspen Hochhalter.

The four photographers in the exhibition, all female, employ alternative photographic processes, including wet plate collodion tintype, gelatin silver mordancage, platinum prints, archival prints on silk, and more.

There is a beauty in the subject matter – soft, dream-like images – of nature, the figure, self-portraits, and the landscape. Crickenberger’s curatorial concept, choice of images, and the installation all add to the beauty of this exhibition.

The exhibition is on view at the Cornelius Art Center (19725 Oak Street, Cornelius) through November 22, 2015.
