A few years back, we really enjoyed the opportunity to experience Hank Willis Thomas’ Question Bridge collaborative project here in Charlotte at the Gantt Center. This coming year, Thomas – or his work – will be in NC quite a bit, including at the Weatherspoon Museum of Art at UNCG, and as part of a group exhibition at the Van Every/Smith Galleries at Davidson College. So we were delighted to see that Charlotte will host the Truth Booth this week, a project created by Collective Cause (comprised of Thomas, along with Ryan Alexiev, Jim Ricks, and Will Sylvester). The Truth Booth is a video confessional that has made its way around the US and abroad asking people to finish this sentence: “The truth is…”
As we approach a pivotal moment in history – the next presidential election – the Collective Cause is sending the Truth Booth to all fifty states in an effort to, according to Thomas, “provide Americans with a safe space to share their thoughts, ideas, dreams and truths about the upcoming election, or anything that inspires them.”
All of the videos recorded in the Truth Booth will be compiled and edited, and ultimately, available for viewing on the project website.
So Charlotte, come on out to The Light Factory on either Wednesday, July 6 or Thursday, July 7 from 10am-6:30pm, and record your truth.
