Last summer, the Young Affiliates of the Mint hosted the exhibition 80×80, which consisted of 80 artworks and was held in honor of the museum’s 80th anniversary. This summer they plan to host another show in the 5th floor gallery space of the Mint’s uptown campus titled “Gendered.” The YAMs just sent out this update regarding this show that we think encapsulates the spirit of the exhibition. Email from Young Affiliates of the Mint, January 26, 2017:
In response to the nationwide support of the Women’s March on January 21, we want to broaden our original geographic parameters and invite artists across the country to join our conversation about gender, identity, sexuality & race. Additionally, we have extended the deadline from March 15 to March 26, 2017.
We find ourselves in the midst of a nationwide conversation. It is our hope that ‘Gendered’ will be a platform for a discussion of national relevance in the very battleground of HB2 and the recent race riots. Therefore, we are lifting the original geographic parameters so that any artist interested in joining our conversation is welcome to submit their work for consideration.
The current divisive political climate finds people seeking a means to come together and find a common understanding. We believe in the unifying force of art and seek to create a safe space of expression and dialog through ‘Gendered.’
