Here’s a few things on our radar for the next month or so!

Juried Exhibitions:

Create/Change is an all-media, juried exhibition at Hillyer Art Space in Washington, DC. Eligible artwork examines the idea of artist/s as citizens. The organization is looking for artists who, through their work, reimagine the traditional notions of art-making, and who contribute to society either through the transformative power of their artistic abilities, or through proactive social engagement with the arts, advancing equity, empathy, sustainability, and social justice through art and culture.
Deadline for Entry: June 7, 2017
Exhibition Dates: August 4-27, 2017
Juror: Mary Early Mary Early is the director of HEMPHILL Fine Arts, a Washington, DC gallery founded in 1993.

Brooklyn Art Cluster in Gowanus invites video artists to submit single-channel videos to a group exhibition dedicated to works exploring point of view on human behavior and social environment. The Gaze will be curated by NY-based curator Shlomit Dror
Deadline for Entry: May 14
Reception and video screening:  June 3
Exhibition runs through June 28

Send 1) An overview page with; name of artist, mailing address, email address and website(optional); 2) Artist statement and brief bio 3) For video arts, up to 2 single channel video works can be submitted via YouTube or Vimeo Links. 4) A checklist for video works submitted. Include number, artist name, title, year, medium, dimensions and prices. 5) Entry fee is $25 (nonrefundable), submitted via Paypal (Account ID is joinus@bklynartcluster.com).

Public Art:

MTA Arts & Design seeks images of artists’ previous work to review in consideration for a new Percent for Art project at Grand Central Station in NYC to be fabricated in light emitting materials, such as LED. The artwork will be on permanent display and must meet high durability standards, as well as necessary structural and electrical engineering guidelines. Eligible artists will have a strong background in lighting design and proven experience with lighting installations.
Deadline for Entry: May 24, 2017
Project will take place between 2017-2019

MTA Arts & Design also has another call for a new Percent for Art project in conjunction with improvements to the end of the Times Square Shuttle.
Deadline for Entry: June 8
Project will take place between 2018-2019
Apply through Submittable.


Solo Exhibition:

1708 Gallery in Richmond, VA, invites artists and curators to submit proposals for the 2018 and 2019 exhibition seasons. 1708 Gallery encourages proposals for developing projects and bodies of work. In addition to proposals for exhibitions in the 1708 Gallery space, public works and other non-gallery based projects will be considered. Selected proposals will be given an exhibition period of approximately six weeks, a $1000 honorarium, and shipping, travel, installation and other exhibition support.
